A CHILD IS BORN
“For unto us a child is born..” (Isaiah 9:6 )
The child was formed in Mary’s womb and born in Bethlehem. The son is the Father of Eternity. He wasn’t created, He was the Creator, he was and is and always has existed. The child was born. He was a common child, but he wasn’t like any child. He needed to be cleaned, breastfed, cared for; diapers changed, bathed. He needed to learn to walk and talk, read and write. But he wasn’t a child like any other. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph and Mary. But He was, in fact, son of the all Mighty God.
What other child would have his birth predicted centuries before with an abundance of detail? What other child had his birth announced by a Host of Angels? A real boy nonetheless, in flesh and blood. But who is this boy?
For many, a myth. But myths do not divide history. He is not an urban legend. Urban legends do not transform people’s lives. He is not an invention of religion. Religious inventions come and go, like passing clouds. He remains forever.
A child was born unto us. He is the King of Glory, the Creator of the Universe. He who upholds all things by the word of His power. But now, He has become human. All that He is, compacted into a fetus in the womb of an unknown Palestinian teenage girl. Developed as a human being just like us, but not an average Joe.
A Child as a child would be, but God as the God He is.
